CBC began on July 2, 1967 as a home Bible study in San Juan Capistrano. Our founding pastor, Colonel Ridge Ryan, firmly established Coast as a church committed to God and His Word. Coast quickly outgrew the Ryan living room and began meeting at Marco Forster Middle School in San Juan Capistrano. By 1970, current CBC member Al Eaton was asked to find property on which to build our church. Al found a 5-acre orange grove for $80,000. It's been home to Coast Bible Church ever since.
From 1984-2006, Coast was nurtured under the faithful preaching and leading of Pastor Arch Rutherford. Pastor Arch led the church in partnering with Stoneybrooke Christian School in 1985 and guided the church through a major building project in 1996 during which two education buildings were constructed and our sanctuary renovated. His strong emphasis on Bible teaching centered on the grace of Jesus Christ continues to be instrumental in our church's development.
On October 1, 2006, Pastor Neil Anderson was ordained to shepherd the flock at Coast. Pastor Neil and the Elders jointly developed 7 focus points for our church's future. They include:
- In-depth, life-applicable Bible preaching
- Genuinely welcoming and inviting newcomers to church
- Developing a more unified and caring church family - hearing "Ministry Testimonies" on Sundays how God is using our people in service and regularly praying for the needs of one another
- Creating new and modifying existing ministries to cultivate the faith of our children, youth and adults
- Giving faithfully to missions with more personal participation in missions and evangelism
- Nurturing the ties with Stoneybrooke Christian School and serving the school families
- Pastor, Elders and ministry staff that are always available to love and care for you
These focus points are just the beginning of our church's vision for the future. As we carry out this focus, our eyes remain fixed on our mission statement: Our purpose is to develop people who worship God and imitate the lifestyle of Jesus Christ - full of grace and truth (John 1:14). It is by our faith in Jesus that we are given eternal life. And it is by our sensitivity to God's Word and the Holy Spirit that our lives become more like our Savior - full of grace and truth.
